The City of Fairbanks is the commercial hub for shopping, medical, public schools, business, employment and Fort Wainwright in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
City property owners pay both City and Borough property taxes (public schools, parks and recreation, libraries, animal control, etc.).
Borough property owners pay only Borough property taxes and service area fees yet benefit and use City services that they do not pay for (police, fire, and safe buildings).
Borough property owners travel into the City to shop, work, recreate and educate their children in the City and do not contribute to the cost of the City providing services (police, fire, roads and safe buildings).
The proposed sales tax of 3% will allow everyone, in the Fairbanks North Star Borough to pay their fair share for the City services they use.
